Liberty Publishing House is a boutique New York publisher with the mission of providing quality books by leading American and Russian authors. Founded by Ilya Levkov in April 1985 (on the eve of glasnost), Liberty created an opportunity for censored Soviet and Russian writers to publish their works abroad in the United States. With over 300 titles in Russian (as well as many in English, bilingual, Georgian, Ukrainian and Hebrew), Liberty continues to be the leading American publisher of books in Russian. Liberty has published the works of renowned Russian writers including Vassily Aksyonov, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Edward Radzinsky, Edward Topol, and Vitaly Korotich. Among Liberty’s American authors are Tom Clancy, Henry Miller, Kurt Vonnegut, George H.W. Bush, Zbigniew Brzezinski , and Henry Martyn Robert (Robert's Rules of Order). 1991: Ilya Levkov and Liberty published the original “Russian Yellow Pages. The book developed into more than just listing, and served as an annual guide to the Russian speaking community in the United States. The book garnered interest from the U.S. Department of Commerce for distribution in Moscow, and the Olympic Committee which distributed it to all Russian speaking athletes at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. 1995: Liberty Publishing became the first Russian language publisher on the internet. 1998: Liberty published “Selling of the Soviet Empire” by Depity Prime Minister Alfred Kokh, in charge of privatization. 2002: Liberty published a “Terror from Within” by then unknown former KGB and FSB spy Alexander Litvinenko. 2007: Liberty published "The Unpoisoned Word", a books of series of letters and articles written by Litvinenko in the year before his death. 2008: Liberty uncovers the long lost works of Semyon Frug “The Broken Tablets”, last published in 1895.
